Some of you may know that I was originally an english major. Writing was all that I wanted to do with my life, so I figured why not major in it? One semester in, I realized how wrong I was. I write fantasy, as you probably noticed in my last post. My favorite past time is world building, and majoring in english is pretty much the exact opposite of creativity. Sure, higher up you can take one, maybe two creative writing classes, but the composition and literature classes… the analysis of every little thing… it was killing me. By the end of my fourth English class, I never wanted to look at a pen again. I scheduled my next two semesters to exclude any classes that required more than one or two essays. I avoided writing like it was the plague. I still haven’t fully recovered. This blog helped me start writing again, especially this post, but I’m still far from the level of skill and self discipline that I used to be at. I haven’t touched The Idorran Prophecy in months. I’m afraid that when I start, I’ll have forgotten how to write. I know that I’m just making up excuses. Afterall, fiction/fantasy writing, personally, is nowhere near as taxing as a 10 page analysis. In writing “Creating The Drisk Chronicles: Part 1”, my inspiration came back to start working on it again, and I hope to start writing regularly soon.
If you have had any similar problems in any of your creative endeavors, feel free to comment below. Sharing your own struggles and hearing about others’ similar trials and realizing that you’re not alone can help encourage and inspire you to keep going or to start again. Stay Creative, Alexa C. Author’s Note: This was not the original post I had planned for this week. I was going to upload a video about my trip to Gatlinburg, but I had so many technological issues that there was no way I’d be able to post it by today. I would also like to add that I wrote this post a while ago as a backup incase something like this happened. Since I wrote, I have started writing a little bit, and it’s significantly less scary as it had seemed. It felt like greeting an old friend.
