Hello everyone! How’s your day been? Good? Intros are fun. They ask you the worst question in the world: who are you? I HATE answering this question because no matter how many times I’ve been asked “who are you?”, “tell me about yourself”, or something similar, it never gets any easier. Who am I? I have no idea. I guess I should start with the basics. My name is Alexa Colon. I’m a 17 year old girl with way too much ambition. I know that’s vague and doesn’t tell you much about who I really am, so here goes my awkward ramble about myself. I tend to put myself into a handful of categories. I’m an artist, a writer, a musician, a nerd, and now, I guess, a blogger. I’ve tried out many different forms of “blogging” before. I tried YouTube, Instagram, and vlogging. I straight up wrote letters to myself (the most private of blogs), but none of those stuck. They could’ve failed for a number of reasons, but I believe it was because they lacked direction. I wanted to cover anything and everything. On my public platforms, I wanted to be relatable for everyone. I realize now that what I was trying to do was simply impossible. So, I have a direction for this blog, and yes, I may stray from the path a little bit, but at least I have a path now. This is going to be a creative blog. I’m going to talk about writing and art and music. Sewing and cosplays and inspiration. The whole *cough* Creative Spectrum, if I may. There’s going to be three main categories that I’ll go into more in depth: art, writing, and music. First, I’m gonna talk about art. I’ve been drawing since fifth grade, and since then I’ve gone from drawing the squarest of horses in existence to some decently realistic pieces. I’d put myself in the surrealistic category most times, but sticking in categories is boring so I guarantee nothing. My art doesn’t really stay in a medium either. I’ve been focusing, as of right now, on developing my digital art abilities and making faster and better sketches. But in the past I’ve done pieces in marker, pencil, charcoal, oil pastel, acrylic… the list is long. It makes sense now why I had no direction before. I’m indecisive as heck. The next category/subject/topic is writing. I am currently working on my longest running written work yet. This is my thirdish year working on it. A lot of that time was spent, and is still spent, in development, plotting, and rewriting. I plan on posting blogs about general writing tips/stories. And I will have an entire section put aside just for world building since it is such an extensive topic. My current work is called The Idorran Prophecy. It will most likely pop up now and again. I’ll tell you guys the basis of it later. I am currently planning on posting a transcription of my group's Dungeons and Dragons game that we’ll be starting soon. As for actual prose that I write, that will be the most common example you’ll see. My final and smallest category is going to be music. I’ve been involved musically for 10 years. I’ve played a wide variety of instruments and recently, I kinda gave up on it all. Excellent question! At the beginning of the summer, I decided to “narrow my focus” since I’ll be moving out and going to off to college soon, and I knew I’d have to give up one of my passions eventually. However! God had a different plan in mind. I received an email asking me to come play keys for the youth ministry at my church. Of course, I said yes cause “no” is not in my vocabulary. Within the next month or so I’ll be playing on stage… with a full band… in front of people… SOooo Yeah. And that will probably inspire my music writing passion again so I’m throwing this in here just in case. Besides, what kind of Creative Spectrum would I be if I only participated in two creative activities? 3 definitely rounds it out.
In conclusion (that’s how I’m supposed to end things, right?) art. writing. music. yeah. See you at some point in the next two weeks for my first content post. Stay Creative, Alexa C.
